01The challenge

An education site, in a subject buried under hype. It had to be believed.

The Bitcoin Transition is a free education site about sound money: how Bitcoin works, why it was built, and what hard money means in practice, from Austrian economics to self-custody. It sells nothing. There are no paid courses, no consulting and no price tickers.

The subject is the hard part. Bitcoin arrives buried under hype, so a site about it starts from suspicion. The standard had to be set as high as it would go: every figure sourced, every claim checkable against the blockchain or a primary source, a plain voice with no hype vocabulary, and a structure that search engines, and the AI assistants that answer from them, can find, parse and cite.

The homepage beneath the film: 'A free Bitcoin education, no ads, no accounts', above a Satoshi Nakamoto quote and the free-course button
Free, no ads, no accounts: the promise sits above the thesis, in Satoshi's own words.

02The approach

A film instead of a hero banner, and every fact pinned to its source.

The homepage opens on a 66-second typographic film: the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy, Satoshi's whitepaper email to the cryptography mailing list, the genesis block's embedded Times headline decoded byte by byte, Zimbabwe's hundred-trillion-dollar banknote, each halving on schedule, and a closing shot that reads the live block height from the network. Every shot holds for its reading load, so the film is text a visitor can actually read rather than motion for its own sake.

The motion is built to behave. It plays only while it is on screen and the tab is visible, visitors who prefer reduced motion get a still title card and a Play button, and on a phone it reflows rather than shrinking the desktop layout: the genesis-block hex drops to eight bytes a row. Automated tests hold it to its facts. The genesis text must match what block 0 actually carries, every shot must hold long enough to read, and no bright frame may ever be a fast cut.

None of it comes from a template. The site is a Next.js build written for this subject, with no theme and no page builder, and the rest of it carries the same standard. Supply and stock-to-flow are computed from Bitcoin's issuance schedule rather than typed in, the live block height runs in the page headers, and an evidence pass checked every headline figure, quote, FAQ and meta description against the chain or a primary source, correcting eighteen of them.

On a phone the film reflows: the genesis block drops to eight bytes a row. A test checks the text against block 0.

03The result

Built for search, and for the AI assistants that answer from it.

The structure is complete: 164 pages in the sitemap, Article and BreadcrumbList markup on all 57 articles, FAQPage markup on the explainer and data hubs, and a robots file that admits every crawler, AI assistants included. Share cards are drawn in the film's own visual language, so a link looks like the site wherever it lands.

Internal linking was planned rather than left to chance. Every article's related reading is assigned site-wide so that no post is orphaned: articles with no inbound related link went from 20 to 0, every one now has at least two, and the ten most-linked articles' share of those links fell from 68% to 31%.

Google PageSpeed Insights scores it 100 for Accessibility, Best Practices and SEO on desktop and mobile, in every run. It passes every applicable check in Agentic Browsing, Google's new category for how browsable a site is to AI agents. With the film playing, Performance takes a median of 93 on mobile and 99 on desktop across five runs, and there is no layout shift at all.

The deeper outcomes

Behind the headline metric.

In the work

The homepage beneath the film: a Satoshi Nakamoto quote, the free-course button, a genesis-block explorer and a block-by-block timeline
The film's closing shot: block height 968,658, mined minutes earlier. Still running.
An article page, 'Why Bitcoin Is Not Crypto', with tags, reading time and an on-this-page rail
Three phone screens: the film's title card, the same article, and the reliability page
The reliability page: 100% uptime since block 0, with 17+ years of continuous operation, 0 planned outages and 2 chain corrections
Three phone frames from the film: the genesis block in hex, the first halving and the live block height
A data page: bananas priced in bitcoin from 2015 to 2025, up 12% in dollars and down 99.7% in sats
The learn hub: free courses on Bitcoin as money, Bitcoin for business and living on Bitcoin
